The
Chequers Public House on Town Green Road is Orwell's only pub. The
current licensee's Lee and Michelle have just reopened the premises
(December 2005) after a complete refurbishment and additional building
works. This included an extension to the rear of the premises for
a new restaurant area. You are always assured of a warm friendly
welcome at the Chequers.
The
Chequers new restaurant and front bar are places where meals freshly
prepared on site by their resident chef can be eaten. The menu is
varied and changes periodically too. The front bar area and the
new restaurant are completely no-smoking as well. In addition to
the outside seating at the front of the pub there is also a new large
decked area and beer garden to the rear.
The newly created side door from the car park leads directly into the
'locals bar' at the rear of the premises. There are pub games and music here and currently smoking is still allowed here too.
There
is good disabled access through the newly created side door and from
here you can access all areas of the pub. There is a brand new
disabled toilet here too which is opened using the
RADAR
key system. If you don't have your own key one is kept behind the
bar.
Watch out for more information on The Chequers own website which will
feature current menus and events etc. If you want to book the
restaurant of find out more information you can contact the Chequers on
