Victoria
Drive is an old coach path, winding through beautiful wooded countryside
and local farms leading to Wimpole Hall and is part of the Wimpole Hall
National Trust Estate. It's name originates from it being the route
Queen Victoria's Coach took when she visited the estate at Wimpole.
Today it is used by horse riders, walkers, dog walkers and cyclists too.
There's a wonderful variety of trees and plants here. Wildlife and
birds can seen along the route including Hares and Muntjac Deer.
You really get a feeling of being deep in the countryside after only a
hundred metres or so.
Access
to Victoria Drive is found off the A603 between Fishers Lane and the
start of the houses on Hillside (A603) The entrance can be found through
a gate in some black iron railings. The walk to Wimpole Hall from
here is around one and a half miles and takes around 30 minutes or so.
The route stays relatively flat and easy to negotiate, most days you'll
be the only one using the path so its a very peaceful place and ideal
for getting away from it all
As
the path is an old coach path it stays reasonably dry and accessible all
year round but the further reaches of the path can become very muddy
after periods of rain especially during the winter months. In
drier weather the path is fully accessible to rugged pushchairs and
outdoor wheelchairs / scooters too. It may be advisable to have
someone with you on your first visit as there's a slope down to the
entrance gate which may prove difficult at first.
